Color of Love
On a blanket of white
to love’s delight
breathed the heart of desire
to the beat of the fire
within the soul.
Dipped its toes in gold
for riches untold
showered down from above
in the glow of new love,
blossoming bright.
On a blanket of white
in the heat of the night
betrayed by the lust
that strangled the trust
of a broken heart.
Gold on white
shimmers in spite
of tarnished hope,
dying dreams,
lying schemes
and blood stained wings.
Shades of gray
color the day
where reality reigns
perfection wanes in
the shadow of truth.
Love be not gold
for riches untold,
not red for the rose
or the blood that flows
from the wounds.
A kaleidoscope view
changing color and hue
with the rolling tide
and the powers that hide
within a heart so human.
