When my husband sent me a text saying a couple of my favorite birds were visiting the lake this morning, of course I grabbed the camera…
I was very close, maybe 12-15 feet trying to be as stealthy as possible with my camera and ginormous zoom lens.
It was okay for the first couple of shots; but soon enough it grew impatient with the camera lady and took off to the other side of the lake.
The shot above is my favorite, like a crop duster dipping its wing in greeting as it makes its way toward the day’s work.
Happy Friday from Blue and me!
Love the Heron! Lucky you, who got close enough for these lovely shots! Such an elegant bird!

I am indeed lucky in that they live in the neighborhood and are often at the lake where I can take photos of him as well as the great egrets. Thanks for taking a look at the photos!

We have them in the summertime. The blue ones, that is. Every now and then it happens that one snowy egret, and one great white show up, but it’s rare. I was really lucky with Snowy one year 🙂

I still get a thrill every time I see them and run for the camera.

Great pictures. Which camera do you use for these pictures? I have Panasonic FZ150, its not a DSLR, but it still offers me great pictures, but I somehow cannot take a flying bird shot.

I have a Nikon D7000 normally I use a 300 zoom on action or pet setting in scene mode. And I take dozens of photos. I don’t normally get good flight photos. Here in Louisiana there is a sort of perpetual haze which dulls water shots. Most of the birds I shoot are on lakes so it is challenging. This morning the elements were in my favor. Thanks for commenting. I’m glad you like the photos. They are one of my favorite birds.as if I could choose one. 🙂

So, you’re from Louisiana? Some of these birds also come down here, not exactly the same but similar ones. I try to take pictures, but they are too far from the road looking for fishes in shallow ponds and fields.

Yes, I am, although I hvae lived much of my adult lif in other places, including Texas and Costa Rica. Where are you living now?

I used to stay in Grant Road which is like in the heart of the Mumbai City, but the city is getting congested and worse day by day so I moved to Vasai which is almost on the outskirts of the city. On Google Map you can find Vasai just a little bit north of the city close to the coast. 🙂 Both Texas and Costa Rica are great places, in terms of real estate I think Austin TX is great. Costa Rica is great for eco-friendly holidays.

It is amazing that at my age, while I thought I knew so much about the world, every day I learn of cities and even sometimes-countries-I never knew existed. We lived just outside of Austin, Tx and also San Antonio, Galveston, Magnolia and lastly Tyler-my favorite. It is more like a small town feeling. Very good schools there. We lived in Costa Rica for 8 months and can’t wait to move back there, possibly permanently. It is more the way we envision our lives at one with nature and not needing so much “stuff”. Also they really love their country and care for it as well as they are able to. We have good friends there, both American and Tico.

We have white herons near our house here in Japan and also near my parent’s house where I grew up in Ireland. They are beautiful. I’ve yet to see a blue heron up close and personal though.

We have the white ones too, or perhaps they are not same as yours. Ours are technically Great Egrets, of which we have plenty. The blue are a bit less prolific. The first time I saw one, I was so excited! I even saw a green Heron during migration season but didnt know it until I posted on a bird circle and was told it was rare to see one in my neck of the woods. I was never a real bird watcher until we moved to costa Rica. Now I am so aware of them always. Thanks for coming by.

I think technically the ones near my parent’s home are Egrets too. I am not a bird watcher at all, but I have always stopped to admire the Egrets and Herons. I don’t know if its their size or their manner, but I find them quite captivating. I love your work, its always a pleasure to drop by. 🙂

They are magnificent birds. I could sit and watch them all day. They calm me in the center of my being. Like holding a baby.

Yes, I can relate to that. In my country they say, een oude ziel, it means to carry an old soul inside. These birds seem to have that…
Nice
